waitress says abused, tortured by restaurant owner

A restaurant owner who was allegedly abusing and torturing the young woman for years after she had helped her and her family when they were kidnapped and mistreated as a teenager has been saved by a good samaritan. The woman was being treated like a slave.

The creator of the Sai Mai Tong Rot (Survive) Facebook group, Ekkapop Laungprasert, went with the 21-year-old victim on Wednesday to report the incident to Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief.

At the age of sixteen, the young lady apparently began working at the Japanese restaurant located in Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen area. When she was 17 and pregnant, she had left her job but later returned.

The victim said that the proprietor of the restaurant had paid her father’s medical fees following an accident and had promised her 10,000 Baht to help with the cost of giving birth.

She was kidnapped and thus became pregnant. She had filed a police complaint and brought charges against the offending man with the assistance of the restaurant owner.

The victim, who was now 21 years old, was the only employee and was in charge of all duties. She claimed that the owner of the restaurant made her reside in the kitchen and only fed her once a day. She worked without being paid for it.

She also claims that the restaurant owner physically mistreated her. This involved stabbing her with a knife, burning her genitalia, binding her neck with wire so she could not breathe, splattering her with hot water, and scorching her lips and skin.

I pleaded with the restaurant owner not to harm me, but he informed me that he had to because of complaints from other patrons. I considered suicide because I was so miserable,” she stated.

A few customers asked me what I had done to improve my physique. The owner gave me the instruction not to inform anyone, so I had to lie and say I had an accident,” the woman stated.

The victim claimed that after making an attempt to get in touch with the police, her boss intimidated her by claiming to know top police officers who would support him.

Pol Gen Surachate promised to summon the Pasi Charoen police superintendent so they could question the restaurant owner together. Names were kept under wraps.
