Spaniard charged with murder

Wednesday saw the filing of charges by public prosecutors against a Spanish chef in Koh Samui Provincial Court for the August 2018 murder and mutilation of a Colombian surgeon on the popular island of Koh Phangan.

On Koh Phangan, which is well-known for its full moon parties and scuba diving, sources say the prosecutors told the court that Daniel Bronchalo, 29, killed Edwin Arteaga, 44, and then dismembered the body to hide the crime.

The defendant was called for a statement hearing on Thursday after the court accepted the lawsuit.

The victim’s pelvis and intestines were discovered at a trash on Koh Phangan on August 3, which brought attention to the case. The following day, after Mr. Bronchalo’s arrest, he confessed to the crime.

The defendant is the son of Silvia Bronchalo, an actress, and Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre. In his native nation, he is a renowned chef.

The victim ran a prosperous plastic surgery practice in Colombia’s Monteria.
