Pickup truck and ambulance stolen by drug addict

A man who stole a pickup truck while high on methamphetamine in the neighboring province of Udon Thani has been caught in Nong Bua Lam Phu for trying to make off with an ambulance.

On Friday night, officers in Nong Bua Lam Phu were called to apprehend a guy only known as “Somdee,” 33, who had stolen an ambulance from Sriboonruang Hospital as the driver was attending to a patient.

Police caught Somdee after following the ambulance’s GPS signal to the highway, which was about 500 meters from the village of Baan Tung Pattana in the Si Bun Rueang district.

Somdee was brought back to the hospital, and a drug test revealed that she had been using drugs. After finishing his shift as a rubber tapper on Friday, he admitted to buying a meth pill. He was so stoned that he stole a pickup truck from Udon Thani and drove it across the province border to Nong Bua Lam Phu in search of a replacement.

He staked around Sriboonruang Hospital in search of his next ride and pounced when he saw an unoccupied ambulance.

The suspect claimed he was heading to Bangkok so he could visit his kid in Chon Buri. He claimed he had to ditch the pickup because he had learned its location. On the other hand, he reasoned that if he turned on the ambulance’s siren, nobody would try to stop him.

The Udon Thani shopkeeper whose truck was taken first later returned to collect it, explaining that Somdee had walked into his shop, picked up the keys to his automobile, and asked to “borrow the car for a joyride nearby.” He gave pursuit a shot, but ultimately was unable to catch up to the man.

Somdee is now incarcerated in Nong Bua Lam Phu on charges of theft.
