Thai Man Arrested for Motorbike Theft and Drug Possession
A 34-year-old man has been arrested for stealing a motorcycle from an elderly man and was later found in possession of methamphetamine during a police search.
The incident occurred at 1:36 AM on March 14th, when Banglamung police apprehended Mr. Chakrapan, 34, on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya. During the arrest, officers found 6.46 grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden in his bag.
Earlier that day, Mr. Khien, 77, reported his motorcycle stolen at the Banglamung Police Station. He explained that while caught in heavy rain, his bike suddenly stalled and wouldn’t start. A man, later identified as the suspect, approached and offered to help. However, as soon as he got the bike running, he sped off, leaving Mr. Khien stranded. Realizing he had been robbed, the elderly victim immediately filed a police report.
Acting on the report, officers launched a search and tracked the suspect to a makeshift shelter built from scrap wood, surrounded by old bottles and debris. When confronted, Mr. Chakrapan admitted to taking the motorcycle but claimed he had no intention of stealing it. He alleged that Mr. Khien had allowed him to use the bike to sell old items and that he left it behind when he couldn’t find the owner upon returning.
However, during a more thorough search, officers discovered a zip-lock bag containing crystal methamphetamine hidden in the suspect’s chest bag. Mr. Chakrapan claimed that someone had given him the drugs and that he was only keeping them for personal use.
Police, skeptical of his explanation, detained him along with the evidence for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities also revealed that the suspect had a prior record for theft in the same area and had been previously arrested by the same police team.
