Before crashing to the ground on the runway at Luxembourg, the cargo made an effort to land there.
One of the left engines of a Cargolux Boeing 747-400F that was traveling from Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) to Luxembourg Findel Airport (LUX) touched the runway, resulting in minor damage. The pilots started a go-around, and on the second try, the plane touched down safely.
On April 15 at 14:10, the airplane carrying the identifier CV-7545 left Dubai for its six-hour, 25-minute voyage back to Luxembourg. The carrier grazed the runway when attempting to land at Findel, so the captain chose to abandon the landing and start a go-around. He reached 4,000 feet before attempting to land a second time. According to Flightradar24, the 14-year-old Boeing 747-400F(ER) with the registration LX-ECV was originally flying from Luxembourg to Taipei on a return flight when the airplane was diverted to Dubai before continuing to Europe. The aircraft has not yet registered another flight after the incident, as was to be expected. One of the biggest cargo carriers in the world, Cargolux, maintains a fleet of 30 Boeing 747 airplanes and takes advantage of its strategic location in Europe between Germany, France, and Belgium to offer its cargo services to customers around the globe.
According to RTL, the incident was witnessed by numerous people and was reported to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC). An internal investigation has been started, as mentioned by Cargolux. The carrier issued the following statement:
“(The pilots) made an additional turn after abandoning their initial landing attempt. On the second attempt, they landed without incident.Due to damage sustained during the initial landing attempt, the aircraft will remain on the ground while the required examinations and repairs are made.

The airline has also confirmed that nobody on board the aircraft or on the ground was hurt, which is a comfort for the numerous aviation photographers and workers who were on hand to document the incident.
