Thaksin is to return to Thailand on 10th August

After 17 years of self-imposed exile, fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is expected to return to Thailand on August 10, according to a Facebook post made on Wednesday by his youngest daughter Paetongtarn.

On the 74th birthday of her father, she made her announcement.

So far, Thaksin has delayed his arrival 19 times. In order to share his birthday with his grandchildren, he had promised to come back this month. For the first time, he even asserted that he is prepared to deal with the legal repercussions.

After being overthrown in a coup in 2006, Thaksin went into self-imposed exile. He was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison in four cases by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Office while he was away.

According to Paetongtarn, every July 26 is a significant day for her. This year, she claimed that she personally found it difficult to accept the return of her adored father.

“My family and I are both thrilled and concerned, but we accept his choice. God bless you and keep you safe and strong. I want your ambition to see your grandchildren off to school to come true,” she wrote, adding, “For everyone reading this, my father is a Thai and a (former) prime minister who is regarded to have done the most effort. He has endured misfortune and sustained serious defamation.

The Thai government admits that they have a plan in place to welcome Thaksin if he truly does come home this time.
