Sepang, Malaysia, January 20, 2019 – KNAF Talent First car racing talent Rinus VeeKay scored an almost perfect result in the second round of the F3 Asian Winter Series.
At Sepang International Circuit the 18-year-old driver from Hoofddorp in the Netherlands dominated the first two races of the weekend to claim a double victory.
In the third race VeeKay had to start on old tyres and suffered a damaged front wing, but he was still able to finish in second position.
The Dutch HitechGP driver also claimed the pole position for all three races and twice recorded the fastest lap time. So far VeeKay has won four out of the six races in the F3 Asian Winter Series and scored podium results in all six races.
VeeKay is also leading the championship with a 29 points advantage over second placed driver, Ye Yifei.
One week after his great start of the F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA Winter Series in Thailand, where he claimed a double victory and a third spot in the opening round of the championship, KNAF Talent First car racing talent Rinus VeeKay was back in action for round number two at Sepang International Circuit, as the former Malaysian Grand Prix track was host to races number four, five and six of championship.
Once again the 18-year-old driver from Hoofddorp in the Netherlands proved his great talent by scoring an almost perfect result on the Saturday.
VeeKay recorded the best qualifying time in both qualifying sessions, thus claiming the pole position for races number one and three. The Dutch HitechGP driver had a good start and only had to defend his number one position on the first lap.
After the opening lap the KTF driver was able to drive away from the rest of the field to claim the victory with a margin of 3.4 seconds over Ye Yifei. VeeKay also recorded the quickest lap time of the race, handing him the pole position for race number two as well.
“The car was extremely consistent. On the opening lap I opened a gap and drove away from the rest of the field. I’m really happy with this result,” said a shining VeeKay immediately after he had crossed the finish line.
The second race was a copy of race number one, as VeeKay once again had a good start, dominated the race, recorded the quickest lap time and claimed his second victory of the weekend with a margin of 2.5 seconds over Ye.
In the third and final race, the HitechGP driver had to start on one-race-old tyres. Once again VeeKay had a good start but was overtaken at the first corner by Ye. A few corners later a front wing flap of his car broke, causing a dramatic loss of downforce for the KTF driver, who had to let Ye go. But still, VeeKay was able to secure the second position, the best he could do in those conditions.
“In the first two races the car was really great. I would like to thank HitechGP for their hard work and for giving me such a great car. I was in control in both races and able to drive away from Ye. In race number three my rear wheels locked under braking for the first corner and I lost the lead. With the damaged front wing I had no grip at all, but with finishing second we scored important points for the championship,”said a happy VeeKay.
With this weekend’s double victory and second position VeeKay claimed a podium position in all of the six races of the F3 Asian Winter Series so far. After winning four out of six races, VeeKay is leading the championship with a total of 133 points. Ye is 29 points behind in second position. For their final round the F3 Asian Winter Series will be back at Sepang International Circuit on February 23th and 24th.
This season, Rinus VeeKay is supported by Jumbo, La Place and the Dutch KNAF Talent First program.
