Man Attacks Grandmother with Knife

Three people have been seriously injured after a man attacked his grandmother with a knife in Phayao yesterday, June 18.

The attack occurred in a home in Moo 7 Ban Tom, Mueang Phayao at around 5:40 p.m.

The motive for the attack is not clear with the accused attacker – Mr. Prawet Kantasa, 32 described as having symptoms of “delirium.” Although Thai language media didn’t mention drugs, the local drug of choice – yaba, translates as crazy medicine for a reason.

The victims included Mrs. Khao Nam, 71, the man’s grandmother and Mr. Boonchuay Thiamkaew, 68 a neighbor who had heard screams from the house and had gone to investigate.

Mr. Thiamkaew and Mr. Kantasa are said to have got into a knife fight between themselves as well with Kantasa also ending up injured.

All three were taken to Phayao Hospital with what were described as “terrible” injuries.

Police are said to be investigating.
