Local man arrested for attacking a foreign tourist

A man has been identified and apprehended by the police in Chonburi Province, Thailand, after using a firearm to intimidate a foreign tourist. The incident occurred when the man became upset that the tourist was not interested in buying the beer he had for sale.

On January 19, police officers from Na Jomtien Police Station and Pattaya Tourist Police arrested Mr. Bunsuk, a 52-year-old resident of Chiang Mai Province, near the scene of the incident. The police found evidence including a weapon, a fruit peeling knife, and the clothing worn by Mr. Bunsuk on the day of the incident, as well as a digital camera. He was taken to the police station for questioning.

During questioning, Mr. Bunsuk admitted that he was the person shown in the CCTV footage. However, his version of events differed from the initial report. He claimed that a young woman had sought his assistance after being harassed by the foreigner. He stated that he attacked the foreigner in response to this situation and that the beer offering was a mistake.

Officials noted that Mr. Bunsuk spoke in a confused manner and showed a lack of remorse for his actions. Later, an eyewitness identified him as the perpetrator, although Mr. Bunsuk claimed not to remember her.

A 21-year-old witness, identified only as Ms. B, confirmed the events reported in the media. She stated that the foreigner had approached her and inquired about purchasing alcohol, and her friend had offered to help. While the foreigner was waiting for the beer, Mr. Bunsuk approached and engaged in an argument with him. He then pulled out a small knife and tickled the foreigner’s neck. The CCTV footage showed that the foreigner tried to walk away, but Mr. Bunsuk pursued and attacked him.

Mr. Bunsuk has been charged with causing physical harm to others and carrying a knife in public without a valid justification. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
