Fans are in disbelief over the “ridiculous” ticket prices announced for the upcoming Wrexham game in League One. Wrexham, newly promoted and owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been designated as one of the “most in-demand” Category AA matches by Leyton Orient.
Phil Parkinson’s side will visit Brisbane Road on Saturday, 28 September, for their seventh League One game of the 24/25 season. Alongside Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, Wrexham is labeled as Category AA, indicating the highest demand.
Leyton Orient has classified their home fixtures into AA, A, or B categories for the 2024/25 season, with AA representing the three most sought-after matches. As a result, an adult ticket in the East Stand for the Wrexham game will cost £37, sparking significant backlash from fans on social media.
One fan commented, “Another club putting Wrexham in the top category of games this season. I’ve seen Bolton have done it too. The prices here are ridiculous. Teams moan about us but don’t mind exploiting their own fans as well as ours when we play them.”
Another fan expressed concern, “There’s a huge problem with this type of thing. It shouldn’t be allowed. Wrexham fans could end up paying £100s more than other club’s fans to go to the same games over a season.”
Others echoed these sentiments, criticizing the pricing strategy and warning that it could alienate supporters. One fan said, “That’s disgusting pricing,” while another pointed out, “Does someone need to remind them that Ryan Reynolds doesn’t actually play for Wrexham? You won’t see him.”
Leyton Orient CEO Mark Devlin defended the pricing, stating it had been “carefully considered” ahead of the new season. “We understand that there is a balance to strike between being competitive on the pitch and keeping prices affordable,” he explained. “There will be some increases to ticket prices for the 2024/25 season, but we have tried to keep these increases to a minimum. The increases are needed to partially counter higher operational costs, including matchday staffing and utilities.”
Devlin emphasized that all revenue generated is reinvested into the club to strengthen infrastructure, facilities, and the playing squad. Despite this, fans remain skeptical about the steep pricing for the Wrexham match.
