British tourist has been killed in a horror head-on crash with a six-tonne truck in Thailand, just hours after wishing his wife a happy Valentine’s Day.
The man had been riding a scooter back from the beach on the popular tourist island of Phuket when the tragic incident took place in the early hours of this morning.
Witnesses said his bike collided with an Isuzu NLR 130 delivery truck and that the force of impact flung the motorcycle through the air and into a grey Toyota minivan, with the vehicles said to have been damaged.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Patak Road in the Rawai district of the holiday city. The man could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His last message online, posted just hours before his death, read: ‘I want to wish my beautiful wife a wonderful Valentines Day.’
Lieutenant Colonel Tamen Somrak, the on-duty officer who dealt with the crash, said: ‘The station received notification from the radio centre at around 5.10 am that there had been a crash involving three vehicles.
‘The British man was dead when paramedics arrived. His body has been taken to the Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full autopsy.’
The policeman said the details of the incident have been sent to the British Embassy.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been contacted for comment.
