British detained in Bangkok for allegedly defaming a restaurant in Phuket.

In Bangkok, officers from the Crime Suppression Division arrested a British man on May 9th at a condominium near Wat Phraya Krai on charges dating back to August 23, 2023. Alexander, aged 21, had been evading authorities in Phuket due to a warrant issued by the Phuket Provincial Court.

The incident traces back to a dispute between Alexander and an Italian restaurant owner over access to an apartment. Despite the restaurant granting access, Alexander was asked to refrain from using a specific route, leading to a conflict. Subsequently, the restaurant noticed a significant drop in Google review scores, believed to be a result of false one-star reviews left by Alexander and his associates.

After the restaurant owner filed a complaint at Sakhu Police Station in Phuket, an investigation ensued, culminating in an arrest warrant. Following his escape to Bangkok, Alexander has been brought back to Phuket to face the charges, despite denying his involvement in the defamation.
