Tourist police in Pattaya conducted high-visibility patrols on January 28th in various key areas to ensure the safety of tourists. Led by Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensan, officers rode bicycles to patrol locations such as Bali Hai Pier, Pattaya Second Road, Terminal 21 Shopping Center, Pattaya Beach Road, and Walking Street.
The primary objective of these patrols, according to Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong, was to deter any potential criminal activities that may target tourists. This effort is part of the “Pattaya Walking Street (S.T.C.)” project. Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong encouraged both citizens and tourists to report any suspicious activities via the official 24/7 Line account: S.T.C. Walking Street.
The S.T.C. project draws inspiration from the successful Smart Safety Zone initiative, which focuses on ensuring the safety of tourists in popular destinations throughout Thailand. Initially, the project targets ten areas, including Khao San Road in Bangkok, Pattaya Walking Street, Wat Chaiwatthanaram Community in Ayutthaya, Walking Street in Loei and Chiang Mai, Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Temple in Phitsanulok, Fisher Man Village on Samui Island, and Phuket’s Bangla Walking Street. Plans are also underway to expand the project nationwide.
