Taiwanese caught overstaying and charged with money laundering

In a joint operation on Monday, Thai and Taiwanese authorities successfully apprehended Mr. Hung Hua Wang, a 27-year-old Taiwanese national wanted for money laundering in Taiwan and for overstaying his visa in Pattaya. Mr. Hung had been hiding in Pattaya following his alleged involvement in the financial crime in his home country.

The operation, which took place on January 29th, was the result of close collaboration between the Pattaya Tourist Police Division 2, Tourist Police Division 1, Chonburi Provincial Police, and Taiwanese authorities. The arrest was made based on a tip-off received from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, who notified Thai authorities about Mr. Hung’s whereabouts in Pattaya and requested assistance in apprehending him due to the existing arrest warrant issued in Taiwan for money laundering.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Hung entered Thailand on a tourist visa on May 22nd, 2021, with a permitted stay until November 18th, 2021. However, he overstayed his visa and continued residing illegally in an undisclosed hotel on Pattaya Third Road in Central Pattaya.

Upon locating and identifying Mr. Hung, authorities informed him about the arrest warrant and his overstaying status. Subsequently, he was taken into custody by the Pattaya police for further investigation. The authorities are now processing his extradition to Taiwan.

As of now, Mr. Hung has not made any statements regarding the allegations to the press.
