Thailand Covid UPDATE

There were 49 more Covid-19 fatalities and 4,203 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday morning.

There were 4,161 cases in the general population and 42 among prison inmates.

This compared with 38 coronavirus-related fatalities and 3,618 new cases reported on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, 7,939 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 2,156,587 Covid-19 cases, with 2,075,088 complete recoveries so far.

The vast majority of the Covid cases and deaths have occurred since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began.

The death toll stood at 20,990 during the third wave and 21,084 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.ad

The latest 49 deaths were aged 28 to 93 years and included two foreigners, Myanmar nationals.

Bangkok logged the most new deaths, 12 while a further two were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan and Nakhon Pathom.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 11 more deaths – in Trat (2), Ang Thong (2), Chachoengsao (1), Chon Buri (1), Nakhon Nayok (1), Lop Buri (1), Samut Songkhram (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Suphan Buri (1).

The Northeast had six fatalities –  in Loei (2), Udon Thani (2) and Ubon Ratchathani (2).

The South reported 12 more deaths – in Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Yala (3), Trang (2), Satun (2), Narathiwat (1) and Surat Thani (1).

The North registered six more fatalities – in Tak (2), Chiang Rai, Phrae, Mae Hong Son, and Sukhothai.

The 4,203 new cases included 4,143 local infections and 18 imported cases.

Of the local infections, 4,048 were confirmed at hospitals and 95 via mass testing.

Bangkok registered 853 new cases, followed by 281 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 192 in Songkhla, 170 in Chon Buri, 154 in Pattani, 142 each in Chiang Mai and Samut Prakan, 98 in Surat Thani, 96 in Prachin Buri and 92 in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

The 18 imported cases were from Norway (1), Mauritius (1) Germany (2), Nigeria (1), the United Arab Emirates (1), the United Kingdom (2), Portugal (1), South Korea (1), Canada (1), Spain (1), India (1), Turkey (1), Sri Lanka (1), Cambodia (1), the United States (1) and Sweden (1).

On Wednesday 60,415 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 64,200 on the previous day), including 1,175 seriously ill patients (down from 1,217) and 320 dependent on ventilators (down from 321).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 663,069 in 24 hours to 268.09 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,659 to 5.29 million. The US had the most cases at 50.42 million, up 127,411, and the most deaths at 813,904, up 1,324.
