A 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend laughed and joked about ‘murdering somebody’ in a video online after allegedly killing the girl’s father.
Sierra Halseth, 16 and Aaron Guerrero, 18 have been accused of killing Halseth’s dad, Daniel Halseth, at his home in Las Vegas in April.
After apparently killing the 45-year-old the couple tried to dismember his body, according to police. Detectives said they found a bloody chainsaw along with Daniel’s burned body.
Halseth and Guerrero were arrested in connection with Daniel’s death on April 13 and have been charged with murder, among other charges.
During their investigation cops have said they discovered a disturbing video of the teenagers in which they appear to joke about ‘murder’. The clip was filmed and posted to YouTube three days after Daniel’s corpse was found.
‘Welcome back to our YouTube Channel, day three after murdering somebody’, Guerrero says in the video, while they both show three fingers to the camera.
Halseth then says ‘Woah! Don’t put that on camera!’, before pulling a face.
‘It was worth it,’ Guerrero says while cradling her head in his hands.
The video shows Guerrero and Halseth laying together on what appears to be a sleeping bag inside a tent, and shows Halseth giggling throughout.
Las Vegas police say they discovered the clip six days after arrested Halseth and Guerrero in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Daniel’s body was initially discovered on April 9 with his home on fire. Cops believe the teens set the blaze to try and cover-up the murder, and also used a chainsaw and circular saw in an attempt to dismember the victim’s body.
Cops noted there was an ‘extensive’ clean-up effort at the home and said they also found receipts for Home Depot and ATM.
Guerrero was seen on surveillance video from Home Depot buying the saws and gloves that were found in the home, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported.
Surveillance footage form a Winco store shows Sierra Halseth buying two gallons of bleach and a gallon of orange juice, police told KVVU-TV. ATM surveillance footage also shows her using her father’s debit cards.
Guerrero’s parents approached detectives at the scene just hours into the investigation to tell them they were looking for their and thought he might have run away with Daniel’s daughter.
According to KVVU-TV, Guerrero’s mother allegedly told police her son and Sierra Halseth dated from June 2020 to December 2020, but their parents decided to try to keep them apart after they had previously planned on running away.
Chief deputy district attorney, Christopher Hamner, said his office is considering whether to seek the death penalty for Guerrero, the Review Journal reported.
Halseth and Guerrero face charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, credit-card fraud, and robbery, and have yet to enter a plea.
They have been extradited back to Las Vegas from Utah and are set to next appear in court on Monday.
