Grandmother offers to sell kidney to help family

A 64-year-old grandmother from Nakhon Pathom announced on Thursday that she is desperate to sell her kidney to help her family survive the Covid-19 crisis

The unnamed woman said her family consists of an elder daughter, two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.

She said the Covid-19 outbreak had closed the Chinese restaurant where she and her sons had worked, depriving them of income, while the meatball factory where the daughter worked had cut her wage to 200 baht per day.

She herself had suffered a motorcycle accident and was no longer able to work at a construction site, she added.

“I do not know whether it is against the law or not, but I want to sell it [the kidney],” said the woman.

She was unable to seek the government’s Covid-19 relief assistance because no one in the family was skilled in using a smartphone, she said.

Instead, neighbours had donated food to help the family through the Covid-19 crisis
