Just a reminder, starting midnight tonight, starts a 24-hour alcohol sales ban. Makha Bucha Day (Buddhist All Saints Day) falls on this Saturday. As it falls on Saturday, the official Thai holiday will be observed on Monday, February 10, so government offices, banks and bars will be closed.
This holy day commemorates the miraculous event when 1,250 disciples of the Buddha, Gautama Sakayamuni, travelled to meet with the Buddha with no prearranged agreement, at Weluwan Mahawiharn Temple in the area of Rachakhryha, India.
Devout Buddhists are expected to turn out in the thousands at local temples to conduct religious ceremonies.
This ban starts tonight at midnight and ends Saturday night 8th when everyone can start drinking again. This ban will also include bars, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, and department stores.
We probably do not need to remind you that, as this is a Major Buddist Holiday, it is illegal for a business to sell alcohol during this time. and those people caught breaking the law can face up to six months in jail and fines up to 10.000 Baht
If you are looking for bars to go when the ban is finished, then why not visit one (or more) of the bars from the Night Wish Group. A fan favourite is Foxy Bar in soi 6 – check them out below:
