Lisandro Martinez, a center back for Manchester United, fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot and will be out for the remainder of the season.
The 25-year-old suffered the injury during Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League quarterfinal victory over Sevilla.
When Martinez was assisted off the field in the 86th minute with United leading 2-1, Erik ten Hag’s team was down to 10 men.
Raphael Varane, the other center back who works with Martinez, also suffered an injury and is anticipated to be off for a few weeks.
Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro and Rapha a quick recovery and sent out a statement to that effect.
Martinez, an Argentine World Cup champion, was assisted off the field at Old Trafford by Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna of Sevilla, two members of his international team.
He was then put on a stretcher and taken somewhere for care.

Before Sunday’s league match between United and Nottingham Forest, manager Ten Hag stated, “We have a lot of decent center-halves. We have demonstrated in the past and throughout this current campaign that we have four or five excellent center backs who are capable of handling the job.
The most likely replacements for Martinez and Varane are the center-backs Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
Left-back Despite missing the last two games due to a hamstring injury, Luke Shaw, an English international who has occasionally played center back this season, could make a comeback on Sunday, according to Ten Hag.
Marcus Rashford, the team’s leading scorer, is also out with a muscular injury after suffering it during Saturday’s victory over Everton.
Following their match against Forest, United travel to Sevilla on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League quarterfinal. Three days later, they take on Brighton in the FA Cup semifinal, for which Maguire is suspended.
