Thailand Covid 19 UPDATE

Thailand logged 147 new Covid-19 fatalities and a record 22,782 new cases over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

There were 22,407 cases in the general population and 375 among prison inmates.

The Department of Disease Control said later that the 147 new fatalities ranged from 23-108 years old and comprised 142 Thais and five Myanmar nationals.

Sixty-nine percent of them were 60 years old and over, while 20% had chronic diseases. Two died at home in Rayong and Pattani provinces.

Seventy-two of the new fatalities either lived in or visited outbreak areas, 25 contracted the virus from family members and 35 got it from acquaintances.

Bangkok had the most new fatalities — 70 – while a further 38 coronavirus victims died in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon (13), Samut Prakan (12), Pathum Thani (8) and Nakhon Pathom (5).

In the South, Pattani reported four deaths and there was one new death each in Yala and Songkhla.

The Northeast logged 12 new deaths – in Nakhon Ratchasima (3), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Khon Kaen (2), Nakhon Phanom (1), Buri Ram (1), Yasothon (1), Sakon Nakhon (1) and Surin (1).

The North saw 13 new fatalities – in Tak (5), Lampang (2), Kamphaeng Phet (1), Chai Nat (1), Nakhon Sawan (1), Uttaradit (1), Uthai Thani (1) and Phetchabun (1).

In the central plains, there were three new fatalities in Rayong, two in Prachin Buri and one each in Trat, Ayutthaya and Ratchaburi.

The 22,782 new infections over the past 24 hours included 22,399 local infections and eight imported cases.

Of the local infections, 19,973 were confirmed at hospitals and 2,426 via mass testing.

Greater Bangkok logged 10,059 new cases and 108 new fatalities. Four southern border provinces had 1,039 new cases and six more deaths. The 67 other provinces reported 11,301 new cases and an additional 32 fatalities.

Bangkok alone had 4,854 new cases, followed by 1,779 in Samut Sakhon, 1,736 in Samut Prakan, 1,666 in Chon Buri, 729 in Nonthaburi, 623 in Si Sa Ket, 621 in Nakhon Pathom, 477 in Ubon Ratchathani, 441 in Buri Ram and 410 in Ayutthaya.

Chon Buri had a new cluster of 77 cases at a tyre company in Si Racha district.

Samut Sakhon found a new cluster of 11 cases at a paper product company in Muang district.

Nakhon Pathom had a new cluster of 18 cases at a poultry farm in Bang Len district.

Chachoengsao found a new cluster of 10 cases at a kitchenware company in Bang Pakong district.

The eight imported cases were from Indonesia (1), the United Kingdom (1), the United Arab Emirates (1), Malaysia (2) and Myanmar (3).

On Wednesday, 209,028 people received treatment for Covid-19 at hospitals, including 5,495 seriously ill patients and 1,103 dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 700,607 in 24 hours to 205.51 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 10,228 to 4.34 million. The United States had the most cases at 37.05 million, up 143,459, and the most deaths at 635,636, up 614.

Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 810,908 Covid-19 patients, 596,375 of whom have recovered to date.

Since the pandemic started early last year, authorities have confirmed 839,771 Covid-19 cases, 623,801 of whom have already recovered.

The death toll was at 6,848 in the third wave and 6,942 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.

The previous high of daily Covid-19 cases was at 21,838 last Saturday when there were 212 new fatalities.
