Police arrested a Japanese man for allegedly stealing bullions worth about 2 million baht early Tuesday.

Police said Shori Yamashita, 32, was arrested on the roadside of Siripong Road in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, at 12.45am.

Police then searched the suspect’s room no 182 on the seventh floor at The Reserve condominium on Sukhumvit 61 Road and found five bullions weighing five, 10 and 20 baht-weight worth altogether about 2 million baht.

According to investigators, the suspect snatched the bullions from a seller, after claiming to purchase them from the latter.

The crime happened at Thong Suay gold shop in The Old Siam Plaza in Phra Nakhon on Monday afternoon.

Both met at the gold shop to seek gold certificates.
