Dove hunter shot dead in Korat

A 63-year-old man renowned for his ability to lure wild doves was shot dead and robbed of a gold necklace in Nakhon Ratchasima on Thursday evening.

Police said Boonlua Bamkhunthod was found dead on a roadside in Moo 19 village, Sung None district, with a bullet wound to the right temple.

His gold necklace worth about Bt40,000 was missing.

Friends Kolayut Fahkhum, 34, and Charas Chalorchon, 41, told police they’d all been baiting doves in the afternoon but he went off separately a few hours before he was found dead.

Kolayut couldn’t reach Boonlua by phone so went looking for him and found the body.

The friends said Boonlua was a master at mimicking the sounds of doves so they’d come close enough to be easily caught.
