Documents needed to leave Pattaya a must

Pattaya residents can still leave the province but must have a good reason and documents supporting it.

Surapong Tanomwong, head of the Pattaya Complaint Center, said a few days back in July that inter-provincial travel is not illegal, but is strongly discouraged under current emergency regulations.

There are only three valid reasons to leave Chonburi during the current coronavirus crisis: to deliver food, medicine or other necessities; for medical appointments, and for Covid-19 vaccination appointments.

Other reasons, such as visiting embassies or leaving the country from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, are also allowed, but must be supported by appointment tickets or airline tickets, he said.

To travel between provinces, Pattaya residents must complete an application form online at Covid-19.in.th. For those who do not have a smartphone or internet access, applications can be made at Pattaya City Hall from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays.

The online form generates a QR code that can be saved and scanned at highway checkpoints. Those who do not get a QR code or an approved and stamped application may have to fill out a form at a checkpoint, which can cause travel delays.

Anyone who considers leaving Chonburi to another province that is not closed off or without a valid reason can in principle be arrested under the emergency decree. It may seem like a threat, but prevention is always better than cure.
