Big Joke’s Home Raided for Alleged Online Gambling

Big Joke's Home Raided for Alleged Online Gambling

Thai Cyber Police and a commando team searched a home owned by Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief who is frequently referred to the Thai media by his nickname “Big Joke,” after they allegedly found evidence linking him to an online gambling operation.
Pol. General Hakparn, however, refuted all claims and accusations after the search turned up nothing.
Pol. Gen. Surachate temporarily prevented the search authorities from entering his home on Soi Vibhavadi 60, which is behind the Police Club in Bangkok, by requesting that they leave. He also inquired as to how a search warrant was issued.
During the standoff, Pol. Gen. Surachate was still wearing his pajamas. However, after speaking with Pol. Lt. Gen. Worawat Watnakhonbancha, the head of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), he eventually agreed to let police inspect his home. He later explained that the absence of a commanding officer prior to the arrival of Pol. Lt. Gen. Worawat was the reason he initially denied the house search.

According to rumors, Pol. Gen. Surachate and his squad are currently being looked into for possible bribery participation. According to reports, he and other officials allegedly asked an illegal internet gambling organization for a bribe worth more than 140 million baht.

According to sources, 11 other police officers and citizens have already been taken into custody, while 30 police officers connected to Pol. Gen. Surachate are reportedly facing arrest warrants. Police are looking for any connections to the illegal enterprise at thirty locations spread across six provinces in Thailand.
Initially, Pol. Gen. Surachate declared that he is completely willing to cooperate with the investigation and that he is not connected to the alleged bribes or the illicit gaming ring. He reiterated once more that he did not believe the search warrant had anything to do with rumors that he was vying to become the head of the nation’s police. He stated that he is not being considered for the position.

According to sources, Pol. Gen. Surachate’s home was not discovered to have any illegal items or evidence of an involvement to the gambling network. Because of his reputation for rooting out police corruption, Hakparn is possibly the most well-known police officer in Thailand. As a result, he has amassed a large number of opponents over the years.
