Dirty water flowing on Karon beach

The Karon municipality is investigating the black water caused by heavy rain from an overflowing canal that needs to be dredged.

Phuket’s governor has reportedly ordered action.Yesterday a video clip of black water flowing on Karon beach went viral on social media. A person who posted the video clip stated that “Tourists are surprised! Lots of black and bad-smelling wastewater from the canal is being released onto Karon beach. The Phuket governor and officers must check this in front of the Naga statue roundabout.”
Today, Phuket Vice Governor Thawornwat Kongkaew is inspecting the area. Officials said they were checking every area where the wastewater could be coming from. For a longer-term solution, areas where wastewater is flowing into the sea will be dredged.
Karon Mayor Tawee Tongcham said: “The rain washes out black soil in the canal and mixes with seawater.Public works officers have been dredging the canal over the past 24 hours. They are using a backhoe to remove black soil for a short-term solution.
This way we can get rid of the black colour from the canal. It is expected that the work will be finished within six hours. So everything will get back to normal soon.” Nation
