Beach or Bedroom? Pattaya Grapples with Tourist Indecency
PATTAYA — A disturbing case of public indecency involving foreign tourists at Kratinglay Beach has sparked calls from local residents for increased awareness about appropriate behavior in public spaces.
The incident, which took place late Friday night on February 21, was reported by an 18-year-old Thai tourist, identified only as “Bew,” who was visiting the beach with four friends. Due to limited lighting, the group had chosen to relax in a more populated area of the beach when they witnessed the inappropriate behavior.
According to Bew, two foreign tourists engaged in intimate acts on the rocky part of Kratinglay Beach, ignoring the presence of other beachgoers nearby. Despite being warned by onlookers, the couple continued their behavior before eventually leaving the area and heading into the water.
“We recommend that tourists who wish to engage in such activities should consider using proper accommodation instead of public spaces,” Bew told local reporters.
Journalists have noted that this is not an isolated case. The relatively secluded area has seen similar incidents in the past. While some have been reported to authorities, many visitors opt not to file official complaints in order to avoid disrupting their vacation.
The incident has raised concerns about maintaining standards of appropriate conduct in Pattaya’s public spaces, particularly on beaches that attract both local and international tourists.
