Munich police are currently investigating Matthijs de Ligt, the defender for Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team, on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run incident.
According to reports from BILD, the 24-year-old allegedly struck a parked car near the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning, August 7, around 10 AM, before driving away without reporting the accident. A witness recognized de Ligt and subsequently reported the incident to the police.
At the time of the incident, de Ligt was reportedly en route to training in an Audi Q8 e-tron. Authorities are assessing the damage from the crash and have refrained from further comments while the investigation is ongoing. Both Bayern Munich and de Ligt have yet to release any statements regarding the situation.
The young defender has had a remarkable career thus far, having played for prestigious clubs such as Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.
