Pattaya five-year strategy to develop city

The authorities of Pattaya and Burapha University have jointly prepared the “Pattaya City Development Plan 2023-2027” to develop Pattaya into a tourist city of the future, Mayor Sonthaya Klunplome revealed yesterday, Dec. 8.

The plan is designed to make Pattaya the “Tourist City of the Future,” according to officials.

The five-year strategy will focus on a balance between the economy and the environment, quality aspects of life, including health, education, society and the environment, and an increase in alternative career skills for young generations in the digital age after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mayor said: “Due to about two years of the domestic spread of the Covid19 virus, Thailand has to undergo tremendous development in many ways. For Pattaya, the change is somewhat in line with the NEO PATTAYA plan we started 3 years ago for sustainable tourism in the future.”

“Therefore, this five-year development strategy has been planned by all related sectors and has the potential to support the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) tourism hub and current multicultural lifestyle to make Pattaya a city with international economic opportunities again.”

The plan will be presented to the Pattaya City Council introducing five main tasks including:

  1. Improving the quality of life and safety.
  2. Improve the efficiency of the infrastructure to support the EEG.
  3. promoting economic and environmentally friendly innovation.
  4. Sustainable management of natural resources and environment.
  5. Improve Pattaya City into a modern and highly efficient organisational city

The action plan will be implemented under the collaboration of the EEC Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Ministry of Public Works and several local communities.

It will be both proactive and reactive in line with the National Economic and Social Development, Tourism Master Plan and Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) investment expansion plans, including:

Economic Recovery Plans:
Such as promoting domestic tourism and local markets, developing an easily accessible marketing platform for all entrepreneurs, developing the Naklua Community Market as a cultural, community and natural tourist attraction.

People skills development plans:
Such as a skills training program for young generations on Wellness Business, EV cars, e-commerce, coding programs and robotic programs, while establishing digital learning in local schools and international medical centres in Pattaya City, etc.

Environmental Plans:
Such as creating a ‘Pocket Park’ to improve people’s quality of life, developing Pattaya’s only mangrove forest as an ecotourism attraction, taking care of large trees all over Pattaya, etc.

Technology plans:
Such as creating ‘Big Data’, collecting integrated data for city management and security, digital health, etc.
