Real Madrid Champions Leagues Winners 2016 2017 2018
Last week Ajax knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League when the Dutch team beat them 4-1 at Bernabéu Stadium. It should have been a walk in the park for the Champions League champions for the past three years.
They’d won the first leg 2-1 at the Johan Cruijff Arena (Amsterdam) and captain Sergio Ramos even picked up a 90th-minute needless yellow card. This enabled him to miss the second leg and free him from suspension in the quarter-final.
Santiago Solari Let Go
That defeat, coupled with the fact that Real Madrid are languishing in third place in La Liga,12 points behind Barcelona and five points behind Atletico Madrid, meant that 42 year old Argentinian boss Santiago Solari had to go. He’d been in the hot seat since mid-November 2018.
Zinedine Zidane – Back In Real Madrid’s Hot Seat
Ten months after he quit Zinedine Zidane is back at Real Madrid and has a contract until the summer of 2022. No doubt he has used his ten months well to examine the current game and has ideas about who he needs to bring in.
Eden Hazard – On Zidane’s List?
With Sarri Ball, and the expected departure of Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea fans must have had a good feeling about the future. Sarri out, Zidane in, and a few more seasons of being able to watch Eden Hazard. That good feel factor has now been blown out of the water. Surely the question is now no longer if but when Hazard moves on!
