Winter starts THIS WEEK and will be COLDER than ever

The official first day of winter this year will be Thursday, October 17, Phuwieng Prakhammintara, director-general of Thailand’s meteorological department announced to a winter tourism seminar on Monday.

Winter will be over in mid-February 2020, he added. This winter will see colder weather, with an average minimum temperature of 20-21 degrees Celsius nationwide – lower that the previous year’s nationwide average of 21.9 degrees Celsius.

Winter will also last longer than last year, he predicted. Temperatures will be colder in the mornings, and with less rain in the North and Northeast.

Mountain tops will be extremely cold for Thailand, with frost sometimes occurring. Lowland areas will experience “pretty cold weather” in some areas between December and January, Phuwieng added.
