Police officers from the Patong Police Station in Phuket Province have conducted an investigation into a 16-second video clip that went viral on social media. The video captured a foreign tourist urinating in public while riding on the back of a tuk tuk (auto rickshaw). It has been revealed that the incident in the video took place approximately two months ago.
The tuk tuk driver, Mr. Prathan Boonthiam, featured in the video clip, was summoned to the Patong Police Station to provide his account of the incident. According to Mr. Boonthiam, the incident occurred about two months ago when he picked up the tourist at the end of Soi Bangla and was taking him to a hotel. During the journey, he noticed through the rearview mirror that the tourist was standing and urinating at the back of the tuk tuk. In response, Mr. Boonthiam drove to the Patong Police Station to report the incident. However, before he could do so, the tourist abruptly left the vehicle and disappeared. Subsequently, the tourist was never seen again.
The police advised Mr. Boonthiam that if a similar occurrence were to happen in the future, he should immediately warn the tourists or inform the authorities. Under Thai law, urinating in public places is subject to a fine of up to 2,000 baht, while pouring urine from a building or vehicle into a public space may result in a fine of no more than 10,000 baht.
