In the early hours of Tuesday, a car rear-ended a motorcycle in Pattaya, seemingly due to drunk driving, resulting in one fatality. The Sawang Boriboon Dhammasathan Pattaya Rescue Radio Center reported the incident at 4:00 a.m. on May 21, 2024. It took place on Sukhumvit Road, just before the South Pattaya traffic light intersection, heading inbound towards Sattahip, in the Nong Prue area of Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers found a bronze Ford Everest with Bangkok license plates, its front end damaged. The driver, Mr. Artem, a 40-year-old Russian national, appeared to be intoxicated. Nearby, they discovered a severely damaged red Yamaha Belle motorcycle with Phitsanulok license plates. Two individuals, Mr. Boonphop and Ms. Mukkajree, both 28, were seriously injured. Rescue workers provided first aid and transported them to a hospital, where Ms. Mukkajree later succumbed to her injuries.
Eyewitness Somsak Lomalay, 40, reported seeing the foreigner’s car speeding and swerving before violently crashing into the motorcycle in the right-hand lane, throwing the riders in different directions. He quickly notified emergency services for assistance.
Investigators from the Pattaya City Police Station examined the scene, collected evidence, and planned to review CCTV footage to conclude the case. They will also test the driver’s blood alcohol level for further legal action.
