Royal crematorium opens up to public for 1 month
For those of you who missed the royal cremation ceremonies, you now have up until the end of November to visit the royal crematorium.
The general public will have a chance to view the lavish Royal Crematorium of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej from Nov. 2-30.
The royal crematorium, which is meant to depict heaven, is the Thai artists’ interpretation of Mountain Meru, a sacred cosmological mountain in Buddhism and Hinduism. The structures took more than eight months to complete.
The exhibition at Sanam Luang will also feature a look at the late king’s personal biography as well as the many projects he initiated around the country. Visitors will also learn about the history and culture of royal cremations.
After the exhibition, the structures will be dismantled.
- The exhibition will open to the public 7am to 10pm each day from Nov. 2 to 30.
- A maximum of 5,000 people will be allowed entry for each one-hour period, during which they can freely explore the exhibition.
- Each day, the daily quota is limited to 8,000 foreigners, 500 monks, 500 disabled people, 15,000 Thai students and 80,000 general Thai public.
- Visitors must dress appropriately. They must not wear shorts or sleeveless tops.
- Cultural shows will be performed between 6pm and 10pm.
- There are five entrances. Foreigners must use the entrance near the Ministry of Defence.
- Free shuttle buses can be taken to the exhibition from Victory Monument, Hua Lamphong, Ekkamai, Rattanakosin Island area, Southern Bus Terminal and Mo Chit.
