Daniel Ricciardo faces increasing pressure as Red Bull’s senior advisor, Helmut Marko, hints at a potential mid-season swap with Kiwi driver Liam Lawson. Marko recently disclosed a clause in Lawson’s contract, allowing him to race for another team if not given a seat with Red Bull by 2025.
Marko told Austrian publication Kleine Zeitung, “It would be exciting for us if we could see Lawson in F1 this year,” further intensifying the scrutiny on Ricciardo’s underwhelming performance this season. Despite expectations, Ricciardo has not outpaced teammate Yuki Tsunoda, leaving his seat at Red Bull uncertain.
In other developments, Marko revealed ongoing discussions with outgoing Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz about a potential partnership with world champion Max Verstappen. Sainz remains open about his future options, emphasizing the appeal of driving a competitive car.
Hamilton’s Silence Amidst ‘Noise’
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has chosen to ignore the chatter around his upcoming move to Ferrari, emphasizing that he doesn’t need validation for his decision. “I know what was right for me, and that hasn’t changed since the moment I made the decision,” Hamilton stated.
Verstappen’s Loyalty to Red Bull
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen reaffirmed his commitment to Red Bull, dispelling rumors of a potential move to Mercedes. “As long as I am happy with the team, there has never been a reason to leave,” Verstappen told reporters ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix.
The Shanghai International Circuit welcomes Formula One back after a five-year hiatus, with Verstappen aiming for his fourth victory of the season.
