According to senior police, there were close to 30 police officers present when a highway police officer was shot and killed last week at a dinner party at the residence of a prominent person in Nakhon Pathom, whose business practices are currently under intense investigation.
28 police officers were present at the home of Praween Chankhlai, the chief (kamnan) of the tambon Takong sub-district in Nakhon Pathom’s Muang district, according to Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn on Monday. Last Wednesday while they were there for the dinner party, Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua, a 32-year-old highway police inspector, was shot numerous times and instantly killed by the assailant.
According to Pol Gen Surachate, detectives had previously thought there to be 26 officers present at the crime scene.
There were three groups made up of the 28 police officers. One of them was those responsible for transporting Pol Maj Siwakorn and his hurt supervisor to the hospital. According to Pol Gen Surachate, one group assisted the suspects, while the third immediately ran away.
“This does not imply that those who transported the injured to the hospital were not at fault. We need to know precisely how many policemen visited the hospital. They will be held accountable for making false claims if they lied, he said.
Five more individuals were interrogated in addition to the police officers. One of them threw two CCTV servers from Mr. Praween’s home into the sea. Three others removed evidence from the scene by wiping up blood stains and hiding spent cartridges, while one buried the gun used in the shooting.
According to Pol Gen Surachate, it would take the police around three days to obtain the data from the CCTV servers.
3.5 billion baht worth of projects were awarded to Mr. Praween’s two construction companies between 2015 and 2022, according to sources at the Department of Special Investigation.
The acting highway police commander, Pol Maj Gen Charoonkiat Pankaew, stated that he would urge the proper authorities to look into Mr. Praween’s company, which also comprised vehicles.
The interim commander stated that Pol Maj Siwakorn suppressed truck overloading honestly and refused to show mercy.
Prior to the celebration, Pol Maj Siwakorn’s boss gave him the directive to attend the event in order to mediate a reconciliation.
According to Pol Maj Gen Charoonkiat, the slain guy was asked to move Mr Praween’s nephew, a policeman, to a desired station during the incident, but he refused the request.
A shooter acting under Mr. Praween’s orders allegedly killed Pol Maj Siwakorn. The former kamnan’s job in local government has already been terminated.
Pol Maj Gen Charoonkiat said, “Before his dying breath, I touched his head and assured that his seniors and juniors at the Royal Thai Police Office will bring him justice.
He stated that the Revenue Department, along with the police, would look into the suspects’ businesses and financial dealings.
