After 17 years on the run from a homicide case in Satun province, a guy known for his fury and who had been on the police’s most-wanted list was apprehended yesterday.
The suspect, who had previously been involved in a nasty public brawl, was apprehended at his home in the province’s Lang Suan area.
Police Colonel Montri Theskan gave orders today for Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongoanot Chua-kaew and his team of Region 6 police officers to arrest Thawatchai, also known as Om, who is 38 years old.
The Songkhla Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for Thawatchai on January 16, 2006, charging him with involvement in a premeditated murder.
Om, along with his brother Jakree or Ek, was involved in an incident seven years ago in which they severely attacked 23-year-old Aphisan Ruengsuk with a sword.
The terrible occurrence took place in broad daylight on a public street in Singhanakhon district, Songkhla province, close to a Provincial Electric Authority headquarters.
According to reports, the motivation was a previous quarrel between the two parties. Unfortunately, Aphisan died as a result of his injuries after the savage attack, according to KhaoSod.
The Investigating Officer gathered witnesses and evidence in order to get warrants from the court so that police could arrest the three suspects.
The crime and the perpetrators’ ability to elude law enforcement for many years prompted the police to place Om at number 184 on the national most-wanted list for 2023.
Years of investigation paid off when officials caught Om hiding out in Satun province. The 17-year quest was ultimately put to an end when authorities found and detained him.
Om confessed to his involvement in the crime during the interrogation. He was then led to Singhanakhon Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The investigation is ongoing.
