On Monday, a pickup truck driver narrowly avoided serious injury after allegedly falling asleep and veering off the road, ending up in a water-filled pit over 10 meters deep. The incident occurred on February 19th, 2024, near Mueang Chonburi district. Emergency services arrived to find a white Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck submerged in the pit.
Luckily, the driver, identified as 51-year-old Mr. Thaweesap Kulbutr, had already been helped out of the pit by bystanders and was uninjured. He did not provide a statement to the press. An eyewitness, Mr. Phiphat, 17, reported that the truck swerved off the road and hit his motorbike, which was then propelled into the water. He narrowly avoided injury as the collision wasn’t direct.
Another bystander, Mr. Somkuan Thasorn, 45, mentioned that he witnessed the accident and immediately jumped into the water to rescue Mr. Thaweesap. Using a piece of iron, he swam to the vehicle, broke the truck’s window, and pulled Mr. Thaweesap to safety.
The police are looking into the incident and suspect that drowsiness might have been the cause of the accident. They are interviewing witnesses and gathering further details to understand exactly what happened.
