A MAN was accidentally killed at a Peaky Blinders fancy dress party after a guest brought a loaded firearm as part of his costume.
One of the partygoers unintentionally shot Thomas Bernabé in the chest at a New Year’s Eve event held in Dordogne, southern France.
The party of former high school friends, aged mainly in their late 20s, was held at a remote house in the village of Monbazillac.
The theme was based on the hit Netflix and BBC drama Peaky Blinders, featuring Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.
Set in Birmingham, the series follows the exploits of the Shelby family in the aftermath of the First World War.
Thomas, 27, was fired at by another guest, also 27, inside a garage while people were smoking outside, just hours before midnight.
Emergency services were called to the party at 9.30pm and found that the man had been shot in the chest.
Tragically, Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man who fired the loaded rifle has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and faces up to five years in jail.
Local media reported the person who fired the weapon had not thought it was loaded.
Cops said that several partygoers had brought weapons to the fancy dress event and they are treating the incident as an accidental shooting.
“About 20 people born between 1991 and 1993, all former high school friends, gathered Thursday in an isolated house for a fancy dress party inspired by this British television series, which features gangsters in three-piece costumes and caps,” prosecutor Odile de Fritsch said.
