The Suvarnabhumi Airport declared that it would be open to receiving arriving travelers from April 11 to April 17 in 2023 for the Songkran Festival. An estimated 1 million tourists, or an average of 143,000 each day, are expected to use the Thailand airport.
At the end of row W in the departure lounge’s fourth floor, the airport will erect a temporary outgoing checkpoint. To maximize efficiency for travelers, the airport will also add more workers to the checkpoints.
The Songkran long holidays will be from April 12 through April 18, according to a statement from the Transport Ministry on Wednesday. Shuttle bus services will be available to take passengers and others to the lower floor of the main terminal.
The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Economic and Business Forecasting estimates that overall Songkran spending will equal THB 125.2 billion, up 17.3% from the previous high of THB 106.7 billion. This will contribute to an increase in GDP of 0.5 to 0.7 percent.
The Tourism Administration of Thailand reported that 6,465,737 tourists visited Thailand in the first three months of 2023 (1 January – 31 March), an increase of 1,199% over the same period in 2018. This resulted in THB 256.2 billion in tourist expenditure.
East Asia accounted for 56.8% of all international travelers, with Europe coming in second with 26.5%. Another 16.7% came from Saudi Arabia, Canada, Israel, Australia, the United States, and India.
