Minivan driver dead but all passengers safe in Bang Na – Trat accident
A minivan driver was pronounced dead after he suffered what police said was a likely heart attack while driving from Bangkok to Bang Saen.
But his actions may have saved the lives of his passengers.
Approaching Chonburi at kilometer marker 53 passenger Suphaporn Thurarat said that suddenly the driver veered into the central reservation concrete barrier.
There was damage to the front of the van and along one side.
Suphaporn said he was not going fast.
Driver Phayon Juitaeng, aged about 50, was given extensive CPR at the scene and on the way to a local hospital but could not be saved. He was pronounced dead later at hospital.
Police believe he had a heart attack or stroke and drove into the barrier to avoid a worse accident.
All his five passengers were shaken but otherwise unhurt.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening.
