Due to strong winds and high waves during the monsoon season, two well-liked tourist destinations on Phi Phi Le Island in Krabi province are currently closed until September 30.
Rakchanok Paenoi, the head of the Hat Noppharat Thara-Muko Phi National Park, stated that the restrictions are necessary for both visitor safety and to give nature time to recuperate during the monsoon season, which is typically characterized by heavy rain, strong winds, and high waves.
She claimed that because of the rough seas, tourist boats regularly can’t land at a pier on the opposite side of Maya Bay, endangering the safety of visitors.
In the Nang Bay sub-district yesterday (Tuesday), three long-tailed boats capsized close to a dock as they were headed for the Phi-Phi islands. Strong gusts and big waves have prevented attempts at salvaging the vessels.
About 500 meters from the pier, dozens of long-tailed boats have momentarily halted operations and taken refuge.
According to Rakchanok, the two well-known bays—Maya Bay in particular—have had so many visitors in recent months that the natural environment and biological system may have been harmed. As a result, the bays will be off-limits to all visitors for two months.
Additionally, the national park has urged tour companies to take extra precautions while scheduling island sightseeing excursions during the rainy season.
