Lockdown in Korat as boy test positive

Two villages in Soeng Sang district have been placed under lockdown after the province’s 11th Covid-19 infection was detected here.

The 11th patient is a 7-year-old boy who accompanied his father and twin sisters on a trip from Thanyaburi district in Pathum Thani to attend cremation rites for a relative in Soeng Sang district on Saturday.

That same day, he tested positive for Covid-19. The boy was admitted to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for treatment.

Health officials said the boy had been in close contact with many people – 14 deemed at high risk of contracting the virus and 34 low risk.

Although all of them tested negative, the 14 high-risk people had been put in quarantine for 14 days for observation.

Sanit Sritawee, the Soeng Sang district chief, ordered the lockdown of two villages, Moo 7 and Moo 7, of Nong Bua Daeng community in tambon Kut Bot, for 14 days.

Five checkpoints were set up to screen people travelling to and from the villages. Anyone needing to leave is required to get prior permission from a community leader.

Nakhon Ratchasima has recorded 11 cases since the resurgence of Covid-19 in mid-December. Nine have recovered and two are being treated at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.
