An altercation between a Thai cannabis dealer and an Indian tourist in Pattaya that started as road rage turned violent when the foreigner was stabbed in the chest.
Nonthawat Sritamart, a 25-year-old street vendor, was detained by Pattaya Police after he stabbed fellow 25-year-old Indian tourist Gulshan below the left chest. The event happened on May 17 at night on Soi Pattaya 16 in the Bang Lamung district’s Nongprue sub-district.Rescuers from Sawang Boriboon and Pattaya Police came on the spot to help the hurt Indian man and capture Nonthawat.
The suspect received bruises all over his body in addition to cuts to his right hand. Before transporting Nonthawat to the Pattaya Police Station, police confiscated a knife that was allegedly used in the attack and gave him first aid.
Before the police arrived, Good Samaritans transported Gulshan to a local hospital. His wounds did not pose a life-threatening risk.Nonthawat admitted that he was a marijuana vendor on Pattaya Walking Street when questioned. He said that after his car crashed with Gulshan’s on the highway, the two men stopped to talk about what happened before getting into a physical altercation.Nonthawat’s personal items that had fallen to the ground during the confrontation allegedly got trodden on by Gulshan.
In reaction, a furious Nonthawat allegedly always carried a knife in his pocket and stabbed the foreign traveler in the left chest.According to an unnamed eyewitness who was questioned by local media, the two guys abruptly stopped their cars and started throwing punches in the middle of the road. The witness saw the culprit being outmatched before turning to stab the Indian man with a knife. Nonthawat is currently the target of legal proceedings by the police.
Another stabbing incident happened in Pattaya a month ago when Thotsapon, a 38-year-old crippled seller, was killed on the beach. The owner of a rental matting company, Thotsapon, was stabbed in the head and chest.
