Good Samaritan Stops Malaysian Tourists After Hit-and-Run in Pattaya
PATTAYA – A quick-thinking local citizen helped police apprehend two Malaysian tourists who fled after striking a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of March 15.
The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. when the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center in Pattaya received a report of a collision on Sukhumvit Road, near the Highway Police checkpoint in Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided first aid to the injured motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Narin Yusamran, who sustained serious injuries before being transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, a vigilant citizen took action, pursuing and intercepting the fleeing vehicle before notifying the police.
Authorities stopped the Toyota Camry with Bangkok license plates at the Chaiyapruek intersection. Upon inspection, officers found visible damage on the front bumper, along with motorcycle parts still attached. Two Malaysian nationals, 33-year-old Mr. Suthan and 36-year-old Mr. Poovendren, were arrested and subjected to alcohol testing. Beer bottles discovered inside the car were also seized as evidence at Pattaya City Police Station.
The good Samaritan, 40-year-old Piyapong Nhaikon, recounted hearing a loud crash and stopping to investigate. After realizing that a motorcycle had been struck and the driver had fled, he pursued the vehicle for nearly 20 kilometers before successfully blocking it at a red light.
Further evidence came from a 24-year-old transgender woman named Pimlada, who was in the Camry with the Malaysian tourists. She later informed the police that she and a friend had been hired to serve drinks at the men’s pool villa. According to Pimlada, the men were drinking beer and driving recklessly, ignoring their repeated pleas to stop.
The situation escalated when the vehicle struck the motorcycle, prompting the men to flee. When the car halted at a red light, Pimlada and her friend seized the opportunity to escape and call for help. She later provided police with video footage recorded inside the car, capturing the men drinking and the moment of the crash. This crucial evidence will be used in the ongoing investigation at Pattaya City Police Station.
