A fire destroyed a popular pub in Muang district of Chiang Mai late Friday morning and the manageress was found dead in the ruins.
The blaze at the Tawandang Mahason pub in tambon Suthep was reported to police about 10.30am.
Fire trucks and crews were rushed to the scene and battled to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings for more than two hours before they had the fire under control.
They kept spraying the site with water to prevent it from flaring up again.
During the fire, media reports said a woman was still inside the burning building.
Around 2.30pm the fire was finally declared out.
The body of the manageress, Pairin Wachiranan, 41, was found in her office on the second floor.
Chiang Mai governor Prajon Pratsakul went to the scene and ordered provincial public works and town planning inspectors to closely examine the fire-gutted structure.
Police said they were also investigating the cause of the blaze.
