Fire damages Hat Yai bakery
A fire swept through a large, well-known bakery in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district early Monday, police said.
Police said the fire started at the Boon Thavorn shop, which occupies four, three-storey shophouses in Hat Yai downtown, at 5 am.
Five fire engines took about an hour to control the blaze.
Eight people including workers living on the third floor managed to safely escape.
The shop is well known for various kinds of bread and mooncakes, which it sells locally and also distributes to several nearby provinces.
Methee Charnmingporn, 40, a nephew of the shop owner, said he and other relatives and workers were sleeping on the third floor. He was woken by the smoke rising from the second floor and raised the alarm. All escaped in time.
Police have yet to investigate the cause of the fire.
