News has reached us that Erick Morillo, the DJ behind the famed hit ‘I Like To Move It’, has been found dead at the young age of 49.

The Colombian-American producer’s biggest hit ‘I Like To Move It’ was released in 1993 and shot the musician to the top of the bill. He was found dead in his Miami Beach home, reports TMZ and Miami Local 10.

Morillo split his childhood between Colombia, New York and New Jersey and began making music in the early nineties under the name Reel 2 Real. Working with Trinidadian vocals Mad Stuntman, Morillo’s biggest hit will be remembered forever.

Released on the 1994 album Move It! the track once again found popularity after it was featured as part of the 2005 film Madagascar.

Soon enough, Morillo moved away from his work as Reel 2 Real and instead focused on the business side of music, founding Subliminal Records back in 1997. He released numerous singles and remixes on the label as well as his 2004 LP My World.

Local 10 is reporting that Morillo was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a woman last month. The incident allegedly took place in Miami Beach in 2019—allegations Morillo denied. The producer was due in court for a hearing this week.
