Drunk Mexican Driver Hits Street Sweeper
A Mexican tourist, allegedly intoxicated, struck and critically injured a street sweeper in Pattaya before attempting to flee the scene. Fortunately, a good Samaritan intervened, helping authorities apprehend the driver.

At 6:36 AM on November 18th, Pattaya police were alerted to a severe accident on South Pattaya Road, near a petrol station. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center quickly arrived at the scene.

When they arrived, they found a crowd gathered around the victim, including her worried boyfriend and friends. The victim, 22-year-old Ms. Suchada Pilasuk, a contract worker for Pattaya City, was found lying in a pool of blood on the road. She had been struck by an SUV, which threw her violently onto the pavement, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. Rescue workers provided first aid before transporting her to the hospital.

Witnesses reported that after hitting Ms. Suchada, the SUV’s driver tried to flee the scene. However, a good Samaritan, later identified as 25-year-old Mr. Wattanakorn Waenkwan, chased the vehicle on his motorbike, called for help, and managed to block the SUV a short distance away. The driver, 34-year-old Mr. Choo, a Mexican tourist, was detained by police.

According to the victim’s boyfriend, 29-year-old Mr. Apichai Prakobsaeng, Ms. Suchada had been sweeping sand and debris from the road when the speeding SUV struck her. The driver did not stop to check on her and immediately attempted to drive away.

Mr. Waenkwan, the good Samaritan, said he saw the driver speed off without offering help, prompting him to give chase. He eventually flagged down the vehicle and informed authorities. A breathalyzer test revealed that Mr. Choo had a blood alcohol content of 77 mg%, above the legal limit.

Mr. Choo, visibly intoxicated and unable to answer questions, was taken into custody. He now faces several serious charges related to the incident, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to gather more evidence.
