Pattaya station chief “explains” after drug suspect takes a beating from a soldier
Following a video that showed a drug suspect on Koh Lan getting a beating from an arresting soldier, the Pattaya police chief has gone on the record.
The video first showed the young man forced to go on all fours on the ground. He is then kicked.
After that he is subjected to several whacks with a stick and kicked violently while out of camera shot.
Chief Apichai Krobpetch said that the man was tested for drugs and gave a positive purple result for his urine. He was also found in possession of one Ya Ba tablet.
Apichai told Sanook: “He was processed according to the law.
“When he came into the station there were no wounds on his body. He made no complaint and so no charges were made against the soldier concerned.
“If he wants to he can press charges”.
Apichai said this was the man’s fifth or sixth drug offence.
Sanook reported that the victim was not available for comment. They said he was worried that there would be repercussions against his family who own a restaurant on the island.
The relatives said that the soldier concerned had apologized.
