Driver of speedboat detained after deadly accident

In connection with the unfortunate occurrence that ended in the death of a 20-year-old Thai woman and the abduction of Enrike, a 22-year-old Russian tourist, a speedboat driver has been detained. On September 25, as the two victims were swimming off Had Tien Beach on Koh Larn Island, a two-engine speedboat collided with them.
After leaving a nearby resort, Enrike, a Russian traveler who arrived in Thailand on August 11, spent the day at the beach with his Thai lover. They borrowed bicycles from the hotel that fateful day and went swimming at Had Tien Beach, where the collision occurred. The boat’s propellers severely injured the young Thai woman, who tragically perished while Enrike is still missing.

Sutthipong Boonmachai, head of the water rescue division at the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Pattaya, is leading a search and rescue team that is actively looking for Enrike. Even though they have not yet found the missing tourist, their attempts continue with more than 10 volunteer divers and two speedboats.

After the unfortunate event, Had Tien Beach’s lack of approved boat parking spaces was highlighted as a serious safety risk by Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai. He brought up concerns for visitor safety by pointing out that the beach is generally only accessible by a bridge and forbids boat entry. To prevent future accidents, Deputy Mayor Manot emphasized the urgent need for designated swimming areas and improved safety measures on the beaches of Pattaya, Jomtien, and Koh Larn.

The secretary of the Koh Larn community, Sorasak Thongbongphet, has highlighted additional safety issues at Had Tien Beach, revealing the lack of defined swimming zones for visitors and the existence of only boat pathways built by locals. Sorasak immediately requested that Pattaya City officials create swimming zones to address this problem. He stated alarm over the absence of sea rescue boats from Pattaya City patrolling the area and expressed irritation over earlier demands for such actions going unanswered. He emphasized the importance of taking immediate action to stop future tragedies of a similar nature.
